This takes the explorer through a walking history of the University of Paris around Arrondissement 5 from its founding in the 12th Century focusing on some of the many renowned Irish scholars at the University who came here in succeeding centuries. It details the establishment of Irish colleges in the late 16th and 17th Centuries and the Centre Culturel Irlandais (CCI) in the 20th Century.

Tour 4/2025. Irish Women Artists in Paris c.1880 - c. 1940

Key Landmarks:  Tour Montparnasse/Eglise St. Germain de Pres/Arc de Triomphe

This tour mostly stays in Arrondissements 6 with a beginning in Arr. 5 and ending in Arr.17.  It takes us to the places that so many Irish artists came to study in the late Nineteenth into the Twentieth Century. Our specific focus is on Irish Women artists who came here in considerable numbers - estimated around 100 in this period - and whose indefatigable spirit and success is often overlooked. We explore the various art academies and ateliers they attended, the teachers who taught many of them over the years, the lives they had in Paris and the impact of this artistic diaspora on the Ireland to which most returned.

This two-part tour takes you to many of the places associated with the  internationally acclaimed dramatist and novelist and winner of the Nobel prize for Literature in 1969. The tours cover his life in Paris from 1928 to his death here in 1989. Along the way it provides carefully researched information about his life in these places at particular times and also directions and time indications for each stop of the tour.  Even if you know very little about this Irish genius, this tour is engrossing and fascinating and maybe you will find that it spurs you on to discover more about him through his novels and plays and other writings.

Tour 3/2025. Poverty, Fame and Riches: The Changing Fortunes of the Irish in Paris. 

Key Landmarks: Pont Neuf/ Place de la Bastille/Hotel de Ville

This tour covers Arrondissements 2, 3, 4 and opens up a world of Irish people or of Irish descent who survived and made their way in Parisian society in the 17th and 18th centuries, It follows the trail of Irish emigrants who set up camp here in the 16th century and the bankers who made fortunes and lost them and women whose wits and looks took them to the very top of French society. The tour delves into the irish connections of the Duke of Wellington and his exploits in Paris and also Presidents MacMahon and Charles de Gaulle among many others.
